Thank goodness for cemetery clerks! The great people with the City of Ault, Colorado, came through with the first piece of direct evidence that documents the death of Andrew King, Peter’s first son with Margaret.
After months of sifting through different online record collections and coming up empty, I thought to reach out to Ault Cemetery, the same cemetery in which Andrew’s sisterJeanette is buried. I noticed that the cemetery clerk issued acall for genealogical informationso I reached out to see what they knew. And eureka! They had a burial record for Andrew with a date of death: 13 March 1926.

Now I have what I need to track down death certificates for both Andrew and Jeanette. Hopefully the records include their parents as Peter and Margaret. Unfortunately, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment does not have it. My last effort is to make an in-person request when I’m in Colorado next month with the state’s vital records department. Add that to the growing list of reasons to escape the Austin heat and head West.
